Peruvian lily (Alstroemeria)
Family: Alstroemeriaceae
Alstroemeria flowers are among the most popular in the floriculture industry. The flowers are durable and are shipped to florist shops worldwide. There are hundreds of cultivated forms, all derived from a handful of the 50 natural species in the genus. There is great variation in flower color and in the patterns of spots on the petals. Although the Peruvian lily can be an attractive garden plant, it is notorious for its invasive tendencies. Many gardeners report that it is nearly impossible to eradicate once it is established.
