Belladonna lily (Amaryllis belladonna)

Family: Amaryllidaceae

The belladonna lily is native to the Cape region of South Africa and is cultivated worldwide. Also called naked ladies, the plants are leafless when the flowers appear in late summer. The leaves emerge after flowering and wither by late springtime. Belladonna lilies are easy, low maintenance plants. They are poisonous if ingested, however, and should be handled with care.
