Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum)

Family: Araceae

The titan arum is famous for its massive flowering stalks that release an overpowering stench when fertile. It needs very specialized care and therefore is most often grown in botanical gardens and university greenhouses. When in flower, it often attracts a great deal of attention from the scientific community and the popular press. Often mistakenly called the "world's largest flower," its individual flowers are tiny. It does have the world's largest unbranched flowering stalk, sometimes reaching nearly 3 meters in height.
