Flamingo lily (Anthurium andraeanum)

Family: Araceae

This South American species is one of the world's most popular tropical ornamentals. It is an outdoor plant in the tropics, a houseplant elsewhere, and an important source of commercial cut flowers. Many cultivars are available, with variation in size, shape, and color of the spathe borne below the flowering stalk. An epiphyte in nature, Anthurium andraeanum thrives in loose, well-drained soil. As a houseplant it grows well in a bright windowsill, but it suffers if exposed to direct midday sun. With proper care it flowers year-round.
