Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana)
Family: Lamiaceae
Most species of Callicarpa are Asian, but this species is native to eastern North America and the Caribean. It is grown as an ornamental for its striking, purple fruits. The fruits attract birds, and the small flowers attract butterflies. Beautyberry shrubs are easy to grow, require very little care, and tolerate drought well. Some of the Asian species are equally ornamental and more cold tolerant.
