Flowering quince (Chaenomeles)

Flowering quinces are grown throughout the world for their stunning displays of flowers in the early springtime. They have been in cultivation for thousands of years in east Asia, where their flowers are important religious and cultural symbols. Within the genus Chaenomeles flower colors range from white to deep red. The artificial hybrid Chaenomeles x superba is the most widely grown, but other popular hybrids exist.
