Glory of the snow (Chionodoxa forbesii)
Family: Hyacinthaceae
Part of the small, eastern European genus Chionodoxa, this species is native to Turkey. It is grown in gardens throughout Europe, Asia, and North America for its showy blue flowers. It blooms in the early springtime, often while the snow is receding. Chionodoxa forbesii is easy to grow with little care, and it self-seeds to produce a carpet of plants. It can be grown in lawns or on the edges of perennial beds.
