Royal poinciana (Delonix regia)

Family: Fabaceae

The royal poinciana is native to Madagascar but is grown throughout the tropics as an ornamental tree. It is known for its spectacular, seasonal displays of bright-colored flowers. Most plants have orange-red flowers, but a yellow-flowered variety is also known. The feathery foliage and broad, spreading canopy are also attractive. This species seeds freely and may be invasive in some areas.
