Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)

Family: Asteraceae

As an essential element of the home flower garden, sunflowers are among the world's most popular ornamental plants. They also have considerable economic importance as an oil, seed, and cut flower crop. The species is variable in nature, but horticultural breeding has given rise to an even greater diversity of cultivars. They vary from diminutive dwarf varieties to impressive, towering cultivars with giant flowering heads. They are easy to grow in most situations with adequate light.
