Fringed rosemallow (Hibiscus schizopetalus)

Family: Malvaceae

The fringed rosemallow is a tropical Hibiscus from the forests of eastern Africa. It is now a common ornamental shrub throughout the tropics, where it blooms throughout the year. As an indoor plant it needs a very sunny exposure, and with regular pruning it makes an attractive potted plant. The plant is also called Japanese lanterns, a reference to its hanging, red flowers.
