Spring starflower (Ipheion uniflorum)
Family: Alliaceae
Spring starflower is native to southern South America but popular in gardens worldwide. It is an easy spring-flowering perennial for temperate climates. With fine, grass-like foliage it fits well into lawns and the edges of perennial borders. A member of the onion family, Ipheion bears flowers with a spicy fragrance that is reminiscent of onions or chives. Many gardeners report that it spreads rapidly and is difficult to control in the landscape. It has escaped from cultivation in some areas and may be invasive.
