Oriental lily (Lilium)

Family: Liliaceae

Thousands of lily cultivars are available to home gardeners, but the oriental hybrids are among the most popular. They have been bred over centuries from east Asian lily species. Most varieties bloom in midsummer, bearing large, showy flowers that are intensely fragrant. Flower colors vary from white to pink or yellow, often with contrasting spots. Oriental lilies are grown commercially for the cut flower industry.
