Edging lobelia (Lobelia erinus)

Lobelia erinus is a cheerful addition to flower beds or planting containers. It fits well in small spaces and flowers most vigorously in the late spring and early fall. Several cultivars are available, ranging from white to purple and deep blue. This species is native to southern Africa but is grown worldwide as an ornamental. It is sometimes called annual Lobelia, but the species is a perennial in its native range.

Cultivation: Small annual for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 11. Grows best in partial to full sun with moderate moisture. May be grown as a perennial in zones 10 to 11.

Flowering: Blooms from early summer through late fall.
