Blue poppy (Meconopsis)
Family: Papaveraceae
Meconopsis is a genus of perennial poppies that are distributed widely through Eurasia. The striking, sky blue flowered species are all native to the Himalayan region. Prefering a montane environment, they require acidic soil and cool, moist summers. They also need protective shade in the warmer parts of their range, but can tolerate full sun in colder areas. Many Meconopsis species and hybrids are grown in gardens, including pink, yellow, and white flowered forms. The blue-flowered Meconopsis are by far the most popular, however.
