Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica)

Family: Fabaceae

The sensitive plant is a popular houseplant throughout the world. It has the remarkable ability to fold its leaves in response to several kinds of stimuli, including touch. Grown as a curiosity, it is short-lived but easy to regenerate from seeds. In the subtropics and tropics it may be grown outdoors, but it seeds readily and is a noxious weed in many locations. It originated in the Americas and is now ubiquitous in the tropics.
