Passion vine (Passiflora)
Passion vines are famous for their spectacular and unusual flowers. Passiflora is a very large genus with more than 400 species, and many of these are suitable garden plants. There are also many cultivars and hybrids available with improved flowers or enhanced vigor. Most Passifloras are tropical or subtropical, but a few can be grown in temperate climates. Most notably, the North American Passiflora incarnata is hardy to zone 7. Several species, particularly Passiflora edulis are grown for edible passion fruits.
