Bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva)

Family: Pinaceae

Bristlecone pines are believed to be the oldest living things on Earth. California's Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest includes a tree that is believed to be over 4,700 years old, and many other trees that approach that age. Pinus longaeva is sometimes grown as a curiosity outside its native range, but work is underway to protect and restore the species in its natural habitat.
