Pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata)

Pickerelweed grows naturally in wetlands throughout the Americas from Canada to Argentina. It is an easy and attractive water garden plant, thriving along the edges of ponds and slow-moving streams. Throughout the summer it produces stalks of purple-blue flowers. Pickerelweed can grow and spread quickly and is reported to be invasive in some areas outside its native range.
