Rafflesia

Family: Rafflesiaceae

Rafflesia is a botanical curiosity, bearing the world's largest flowers in the deep rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It is a parasitic plant, absorbing nutrients from the roots of a specific kind of tree. It is therefore difficult or impossible to grow outside its habitat. The flowers may grow to more than a meter in diameter, and have become a tourist attraction for adventurous travelers in southeast Asia.
