African tulip tree (Spathodea campanulata)
Family: Bignoniaceae
The African tulip tree is a spectacular, fast-growing tree that is grown for its large, orange-red flowers. Native to tropical Africa, it has been introduced to warm regions worldwide. It is extremely invasive in many areas and is especially problematic on islands of the Pacific. In these environments it spreads rapidly and outcompetes natural vegetation. It should not be planted in areas where it is known to be invasive.
