Tulip (Tulipa)
Family: Liliaceae
Tulips are among the world's most recognizable flowers and perhaps the most popular of the spring flowering bulbs. While there are many attractive, natural species in the genus, the overwhelming majority of cultivated tulips are the product of intensive breeding and selection. Garden tulips are elegant cut flowers and spectacular when planted in large numbers. Tulip fields in the Netherlands, used for commercial bulb and cut flower production, are famous.
