Cattail (Typha latifolia)

Family: Typhaceae

The cattail is a familiar wetland plant from temperate areas to the tropics. It is attractive, forming dense stands of lush, straplike foliage. The flowering spikes are distinctive. Unfortunately this species is invasive in many subtropical and tropical wetlands, clogging waterways and displacing native vegetation.
